Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, former presidential candidate on the ticket of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) in the 2023 presidential and general elections, is calling on members of the “majority bloc” who want to oust Speaker J. Fonati Koffa to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court of Liberia.

The former President of the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) informed members of the majority bloc that the Supreme Court is the final arbiter of justice and the highest court in the land. The veteran Liberian lawyer further appealed to members of the “majority bloc” to do the honorable thing for the sake of the Liberian people: obey the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Cllr. Gongloe explained that the court made it clear that members of the majority bloc need to act in consent of the law, Article 33 and 49. According to him, anything outside of Article 33 and 49 is un-Constitutional. The LNBA Ex-President made these remarks over the weekend on the Spoon Network Show in Monrovia.

According to him, every action of the members of the House of Representatives referring to themselves as “majority bloc” wanting to oust Speaker Koffa was declared by the court as ultra vires. Cllr. Gongloe described the actions of the “majority bloc” exhibited over the period of time as very disrespectful, disappointing, illegal and un-Constitutional.

The veteran Liberian lawyer added that the lawmakers took an oath to protect and defense the Constitution of Liberia. The LPP former presidential candidate reminded them that the law is the law, and it should not come in conflict with politics. He also informed members of the majority bloc that they as lawmakers should not be law-breakers.

According to him, Liberia is a country of law, not disorder. Cllr. Gongloe stated that the Judiciary branch is charged with the responsibility of interpreting the law, while the Executive enforces the law.

The former President of the LNBA stated that any attemt on the part of the office of the President to do business with the “majority bloc” would undermine the Constitution of the country, and this could lead to conflict.

Cllr. Gongloe further informed the public that Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa still remains the legitimate Speaker of the House of Representatives. The veteran lawyer reminded the conflicting parties that he is not on the side of any of them, stating that he is on the side of the laws.

Cllr. Gongloe is on record for, over the years, speaking on critical national issues without fear or favor.
