Cllr. Griggs’ Support For Supreme Court Bench Swells
As President Joseph Nyuma Boakai prepares to nominate a credible legal practitioner to fill the gap of the late Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe, one of such whom many feel could be the best choice for the prestigious position is Cllr. John Lafayette Griggs.
Cllr. John Lafayette Griggs, who hails from Grand Bassa County, seems to be the preferred choice of many Liberians, including some of his colleagues in the legal profession, who have noted that he is, indeed, fit to serve as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
Some Liberians who spoke to reporters over the weekend, including women advocates, strongly urged the Liberian presidency to consider the nomination of Cllr. Griggs—a young legal professional whom they described as the right person for the high-profile position.
The women group, in their prepared statement, said if nominated to the Supreme Court Bench as Associate Justice Cllr. Griggs will professionally perform well. “He will exhibit a high level of professionalism on that bench under the President Joseph N Boakai administration,” the women group said.
The women group also pointed out that it will be history for a counsellor-at-law with such well-grounded experience to ascend to such a high-profile position, noting that it will be a history for such a young Liberian to occupy such a high-profile position after serving in court administration and other Judiciary assignments for decades.
Speaking further, the women, many of whom are from the Grand Bassa County belt, said Griggs possesses all the qualifications to ascend to the high-profile position.
Cllr. John Lafayette Griggs is a member of the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA). He studied at the Liberia Assembly Of God Bible College (LAGBC), the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, the AME Zion University College, College Of West Africa (CWA) and the University of Liberia (UL).
