The Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), comprising the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Liberty Party (LP), has officially endorsed and pledged to support the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Weah in the run-off election slated November 14.
A statement issued Friday, November 3, by the CPP National Executive Committee, the highest decision-making body of the collaboration, said its decision followed weeks of consultation amongst its partisans, supporters as well as with the CDC and the Unity Party hierarchies, on its proposed 12-point recommendations for consideration by the two political parties.
The CPP National Executive Committee said, considering its consistent criticism and differences with the CDC on governance and management of the country’s resources, it also consistently voiced and held skepticism about the Unity Party inability to institute good governance and prudent management of the economy.
CPP said these drawbacks, on both sides, made taking decision very tedious and uncomfortable as to which party to endorse and support.
CPP said, however, based on popular demand by its partisans and supporters that CPP cannot and must not remain natural in the run-off, and must therefore take a side its Standard Bearer, Alexander B. Cummings constituted a five-member Committee headed by CPP Vice Standard Bearer, Counsellor Charlyne Brumskine, to engage the CDC and Unity Party on a 12-point proposed agenda in the supreme interest of all Liberians.
CPP said its 12-point proposed agenda was overwhelmingly accepted and sanctioned by the CDC to form part of its agenda for change, and a subsequent decision taken by the Executive Committee to support the CDC.
The CPP said its endorsement of the CDC is a unanimous decision of partisans, supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers of both the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Liberty Party (LP), and remains committed to the cause of the re-election of President Weah and Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor.
The endorsement ceremony, held at the CPP headquarters in Monrovia, was attended by senior CPP stalwarts, including Vice Standard Bearer, Counsellor Charlyne Brumskine, and CPP National Chairman, Musa Bility, both of whom made remarks and reaffirmed their support for the CDC second six-year term.
Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor along with CDC National Chairman, Mulbah Morlu, and hundreds of partisans of the three political parties attended the endorsement ceremony, which was characterized by jubilation.
