CPP Executives To Boycott Karnga-Lawrence’s Turnover Ceremony
Credible information reaching the Hot Pepper says some executive members of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) have planned to boycott the turnover ceremony of the CPP chairmanship of Liberty Party (LP) Political Leader, Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, to Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai, of the Unity Party (UP).
On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, a link letter was read on a local radio talk show in Monrovia expressing some CPP Executives’ dissatisfaction over the wrong proceeding of the CPP Political Leader. The letter, which was read on the show bears the signatures of Liberty Party (LP) National Chairman, Musa Hassan Bility, and Secretary General, Martin Kollah.
According to the letter, Senator Lawrence, as head of the CPP, did not plan the turning over program with any one of the executives. The letter further noted that the framework document is very clear on how turning over of the CPP Chairperson’s office is done. In line with the CPP Framework Document, according to the letter, a transitional committee needed to be constituted to pave the way for the turnover ceremony.
Additionally, the letter added that, as required by the Framework Document and as precedent, the turnover ceremony should be held at the Liberty Party’s headquarters and not Unity Party headquarters, as planned. According to the letter, it is Senator Lawrence that is turning over to Ambassador Boakai and, therefore, the occasion should be held at LP headquarters as done in the past.
The letter further explained that executive members of the CPP got the turning over program’s date in the media, with no direct communication to them as executive members.
It is also speculated that CPP executives from the ANC bloc may not grace the occasion due to what recently transpired between Alexander Cummings and Senator Karnga-Lawrence and, by extension, Benoni Urey.
Whether Boakai’s chairmanship anticipates finding a solution to the rigmarole in the CPP or continuing the silent role may be addressed during his takeover, as Liberians watch the style of leadership he is about to bring to the table.
Ambassador Boakai, of the former ruling party, UP, is expected to take over the leadership of the CPP on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the UP headquarters, Congo Town. Ambassador Boakai has informed the general public about the taking over ceremony.
The CPP is a conglomeration of four political parties: All Liberian Party (ALP), Alternative National Congress (ANC), Unity Party (UP) and Liberty Party (LP). The collaboration is intended to unseat President George M. Weah.
CPP is expected to go to convention by December 2021 to select the standard bearer for the 2023 general and presidential elections.
