–Calls On LNP To Bring Perpetrators To Justice
The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) has expressed unreserved condemnation and strongly denounced the action of a group of thugs purporting to be the “propaganda arm” of the Student Unification Party (SUP), who violently invaded and ransacked the headquarters of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in Paynesville on the early morning on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. “The violent invasion of the LFA headquarters by a group of individuals proclaiming to be members of the Student Unification Party amounts to vandalism and gansterism, which should have no place in a decent society,” the CSNL said in a press release.
“The Civil Society Network of Liberia is grossly disappointed that the Student Unification Party could be subverted and infiltrated by certain misguided individuals to project their personal aggrandizement. SUP’s attack at the LFA Headquarters with knives, cutlasses and lethal weapons is not only despicable, but has rendered the once nationally venerated student advocacy institution an object of disgrace and mockery. It is highly ridiculous to see university students abandoning classes just to attack and vandalize the LFA headquarters under the disguise of demanding that the President of the Liberia Football Association, Mr. Mustapha Raji, declares his nationality,” the CSNL release noted.
“The Civil Society Network of Liberia wonders as to how SUP could be reduced to being a hired gangster group to attack the LFA headquarters without substantial reason. With the myriads of complex issues that Liberia is faced with, including economic, social, religious and others vices, it is mind-boggling that SUP has kept silent in speaking out, but chose to engage into acts of hooliganism at the LFA headquarters. Instead of speaking on the permeating vices daily and the failed promises of the Boakai government in the protection of the rule of law, fight against corruption, economic empowerment of Liberians, improvement in educational services and healthcare, etc., it is annoying and provoking for SUP to attack the LFA office in the name of the LFA President declaring his nationality.”
According to the civil society organization, given the grave nature of the violent actions of these SUP members, the Civil Society Network of Liberia calls on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to launch an immediate investigation into the violent act and bring the perpetrators to book. While it is the right of every citizen of the Republic of Liberia to peacefully protest against a situation, such right shall be exercised without infringing on the rights of others. It is disturbing and security-threatening when thugs hiding under the banner of a student group go on the rampage to vandalize properties at the orders of their masters.
The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) then called on the Student Unification Party (SUP) to unconditionally distance itself from the group of gangsters and encourages all well-meaning Liberians to condemn their today’s action. As an institution known for advocacy in the interest of the masses in its over 47 years of existence, the Central Committee and Polit Bureau of the Student Unification Party, through its Chairman should condemn this barbaric action. “Hence, Liberia is a country of law. We urge every group of Liberian citizens to always address their issues within the ambit of the law,” CSNL maintained.
