The Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports, J. McGill Bryant, has been accused of raping a 14-year-old minor—identified as the daughter of the ministry’s Deputy Chief of Security.

According to information, the alleged culprit has been in negotiation with the victim’s family behind closed doors in order to compromise the action, but unfortunately the Liberia National Police (LNP) was tipped and made a swift intervention.

However, Deputy Minister Bryant has denied the allegation.

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, authorities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports confirmed that the LNP has officially informed them of an allegation of sexual misconduct involving Deputy Minister McGill against a minor, a claim that the Deputy Minister outrightly denied.

“The matter, reported to the police by the alleged victim’s father, Mr. Christopher Davis, has understandably raised grave concerns. The ministry acknowledges that both the Deputy Minister and the alleged victim’s father are employees of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, as they center on the fundamental principles of justice, integrity and the safety of our citizens, particularly young people,” a Ministry of Youth and Sports release observed.

The ministry said, to ensure the investigation proceeds without any perception of influence, Deputy Minister Bryant has requested for a leave of absence, effective immediately, until the matter is resolved, which the ministry has accepted and is forwarding to the Office of the President.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the law, safeguarding the integrity of public service and protecting the wellbeing of all individuals, especially the youth they serve.
