The Biblical quotation, “We shall know them by their fruit”, is manifesting in Montserrado County’s district #4, as its Representative-elect, Michael M. Thomas, has begun to fulfill some of the promises contained in his campaign message; writes Ojuku Silver-tongue Kangar, Jr.

“During our campaign rallies, we promised the people of district #4 that we were going to rehabilitate roads in the district,” Chairman Charles D. Cooper of Michael Thomas’ Alliance for Change said when the road rehabilitation started on Sunday.

Representative-elect Thomas’ campaign message, which was healthcare delivery system, reconciliation,  road connectivity, education, empowerment, and so on, still rings in the ears of the electorate.

As a result, at any gathering of two or three persons, and above, in the district their Representative-elect’s campaign message’s fulfilment is the theme of the conversations.

Worldwide, promise is a debt, especially political campaign promise that mesmerizes thousands of constituents and give them hope in a particular candidate’s platform.

Still reviewing their newly elected Representative’s message, the electorate said they are yarning for a change that will impact the 35 communities in the district, especially road connectivity, sanitation improvement, a rehabilitation center to recruit drug addicts from the street, and so on.

However, as Rome was not built in one day’s time but gradually, Representative Thomas’ Alliance Chairman said they will not fulfill all the campaign promises in the twinkling of an eye, rather, gradually.

“The people overwhelmingly voted us; so we have not taken office yet, but try to identify five roads,” Chairman Cooper said, as he beamed with smile and nodded his head as the earth-moving equipment went into operation.

According to him, the rehabilitation project will last for three weeks, which starts from Du-Port Road market and ends at the Soul Clinic community.

But the current project will not target the five roads; rather, the one from Du-Port Road to Soul Clinic, according to Chairman Cooper.

Thanking the electorate for electing him, Representative-elect Thomas has visited two churches and a mosque in the district since the National Elections Commission (NEC) declared him the winner of the densely populated electoral district’s representative seat.

The project is under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Works and the Hot Pepper has not independently established it costs. However, it is proceeding with monumental speed.

“Apart from the on-going road rehabilitation, the district is poised to benefit from a technical vocational college, security, healthcare delivery system, and many other things,” Chairman Cooper informed a team of journalists on Sunday.
