One of Liberia’s newest registered political parties, Democratic People’s Party (DPPL), has joined the call for the establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia.

DPPL’s Political Leader-elect, Rev. David G.B Kiamu, in a news conference addressed over the weekend said the establishment of the court will provide justice for all those who were victimized as the result of the 14 years of war in the country.

According to him, he is deeply concerned that in five years of President George M. Weah’s government nothing concrete has been done to satisfy the desires of the common citizens, who were victimized during the civil war.

Rev. Kiamu said those who committed economic and war crimes and those who murdered innocent people are still walking around here and going with impunity.

“The DPPL is concerned about this, and calls on this government to do what is necessary to set up a war and economic crimes court for Liberia,” he said.

He pointed out that they in the DPPL lend support to the United States of America’s Congressional Resolution 907, which reaffirms commitment to support progress towards transparency, accountability and other tenants of good governance in Liberia.

Rev. Kiamu indicated that, consistent with the United States of America’s Congressional Resolution 1055, which supports the upholding of democratic principles in Liberia, the DPPL urges the George Weah CDC-led government to write two separate letters to the United Nations Secretary General and the United States of America’s Congress expressing Liberia’s readiness to fully implement recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Liberia.

He added that the Democratic People’s Party urges the George Weah CDC-led government to do this within a period of sixty (60) days.

In another development, the DPPL Political Leader underscored that their party was also concerned that some Liberians at home and in the diaspora continue to live on telling lies about other Liberians, only because they are looking for asylum opportunities in Europe and America.

“My attention has been drawn to a specific Liberian journalist, Hassan Seku Bility, of the Global Justice Research Project in Liberia,” he said.

Rev. Kiamu explained that journalist Hassan Seku Bility is in the business of lying on other Liberians in the diasporas and using fake Liberian witnesses to indict other Liberians.

The DPPL Political Leader then used the occasion to call on the Liberian government to launch an investigation or audit of the group led by Hassan Seku Bility.
