Report says several opposition Lawmakers have, for the first time, ridden tricycles (Kekeh) to work at the Capitol Building.

According to numerous media reports, the aggrieved lawmakers said the move is as the result of government alleged refusal to purchase brand new vehicles for 73 Representatives. Liberia will have to spend US$2.9 million to procure vehicles for all 73 Representatives, at US$45,000 each.

Liberians have expressed mixed views about the purchase of vehicles for lawmakers. Some say the money should be used to buy public buses, trucks for city corporations, farm equipment, among others, while others are saying it is the lawmakers’ entitlement and they should get the new vehicles.

In a bold and defiant move, Representative Zinnah A. Norman took a stand against the Executive branch, criticizing the government’s incompetence and slamming the President’s leadership as a grave error. Accompanied by his fellow lawmakers, Norman made a powerful statement by riding a tricycle to the Capitol Building, symbolizing his protest and demand for the Executive to fulfill their entitlements for acquiring vehicles.

Norman’s unwavering commitment to his constituents in Gbarpolu’s district #1 was evident as he emphasized the significance of ensuring their voices are heard and represented, even if it means resorting to unconventional methods like riding “Kekehs”. He firmly declared his intent to persist with using tricycles until the Executive upholds their commitments and respects the rights and privileges of the lawmakers.

Furthermore, Norman did not shy away from highlighting the dire state of road infrastructure in Gbarpolu, underscoring the challenges faced by residents due to the lack of proper roads, which often result in vehicles becoming stuck in muddy terrain. This failure of the government to address such fundamental issues was condemned by Norman, demonstrating his dedication to advocating for tangible improvements that will positively impact the lives of the people he serves.

Driven by a strong sense of duty and in alignment with the principles of the Constitution, Norman made a solemn promise to continue advocating for better living conditions and standing up for the welfare of the citizens of Gbarpolu. Through his actions and words, Norman exemplified a staunch determination to fulfill his role as a representative and fight for the interests and rights of his constituents with unwavering dedication and resolve.
