Editorial: The Disintegration Of The Liberty Party
THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE Committee (NAC) of the Liberty Party (LP) on Monday, December 6, 2021 announced the official suspension of its Political Leader, Senator Nyomblee Karnga-Lawrence; Vice Chair for Political Affairs, Senator Abraham Darius Dillon; Vice Chair for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando; Vice Chair for Mobilization, Prince Toles; Vice Chair for Inter-Party and NEC Affairs, Augustine Fredricks; Vice Chair for Auxiliary Service, Agatius Coker; NAC member, Nathaniel Barnes; eminent partisan, Edith Gongloe-Weh; Legislative Caucus Members, Senator Steve Zargo, Senator Jonathan Kaipay and Representative Hans Barchue, and many others, for delinquency in their financial obligation to the party. The decision marked the beginning of an avalanche of actions and counter actions which amount to the disintegration of the Liberty Party (LP).
THE POLITICAL LEADER of the Liberty Party, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, forcefully responded to Bility’s harsh reaction on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in a press statement, in which she nullified the party’s January 23, 2021 Gbarnga Convention, which brought Bility and others on board as executives of the party.
THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION (NEC) then came into focus. Bility ran to the NEC, which ruled in his favor: that Liberty Party’s 2021 notarized constitution submitted to the NEC was deemed proper and remains as such until successfully challenged, in keeping with due process or via amendment by the party. Bility communicated the NEC ruling to the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) with the objective of removing Nyonblee and others from CPP positions.
EMBATTLED NYONBLEE RESPONDED not too kindly to the NEC ruling, terming it an “interference” in the affairs of Liberty Party. Observers from the outside, however, perceived what looks more like the disintegration of the LP as opposed to Nyonblee’s “interference”. The days to come will tell whether an internal or external intervention will halt the disintegration, or whether the disintegration, un-interfered with, leads the LP to the paralyzed position of being unprepared to face President George Manneh Weah in 2023.
