The plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its leadership to invite the ministers of Justice and Foreign Affairs to appear on Monday to provide explanations regarding reports of the alleged transfer of a Salvadoran national and suspected drug dealer, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, to Liberia by the Government of Liberia (GOL).

The decision followed a formal communication from Sinoe County’s electoral district #3 Representative, Alex S. Noah, who raised grave concerns over reports that Garcia, a foreign national reportedly linked to organized crime, was being brought into the country under unclear circumstances.

According to Representative Noah, research indicates that Garcia is an alleged drug trafficker and a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13)—one of Central and North America’s most violent criminal organizations, designated as a terrorist group by the United States. The gang has been accused of crimes including drug trafficking, kidnapping, terrorism, rape, carjacking, and gun smuggling across several countries.

Representative Noah cautioned that while Liberia maintains strong bilateral relations with the United States, such cooperation must not compromise national security or undermine the country’s peace and stability.

“Liberia is already grappling with a growing drug crisis and related crimes. Bringing an individual of Mr. Garcia’s alleged criminal background into our borders—given our weak border control and security challenges—poses a serious threat to our nation’s safety, particularly our youthful population,” Representative Noah warned.

He therefore appealed to plenary to invite the ministers of Justice and Foreign Affairs to clarify the government’s position and rationale for allegedly receiving Garcia in Liberia, rather than facilitating his repatriation to his country of origin or another jurisdiction.

Plenary agreed that the matter raises serious national security concerns and must be addressed urgently to ensure that the sovereignty and stability of the Republic are not compromised.

Attached to Representative Noah’s communication was a publication purportedly from the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), confirming reports of Garcia’s supposed deportation to Liberia.

The House Leadership is expected to engage the two Ministers on Monday and report back to plenary with findings and recommendations.
