FOY Warns Rep. Samah, Others Against Voter Trucking
The Friends of Yorgbor (FOY), a political movement in district #12, Montserrado County, has accused the district’s Representative, George Beyan Samah, and other aspirants of planning to carry out voter trucking during the voter registration process.
According to the group, Representative Samah has failed the people of district #12 and believes that the only way to retain his position is by importing citizens from different districts to register in district #12.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, March 17, 2023 at their district office, the Chairman of FOY, John Y. Scere, alleged that their intelligence bureau has uncovered a grand scheme by incumbent Representative Samah to carry out massive voter trucking in the district during the voter registration process; as such, they have constituted a voter registration taskforce to resist the act by Representative Samah and others who are planning to do the same.
Chairman Scere stated that the FOY taskforce will be assigned at the targeted voting centers, including SDA, Special Project School, Emmanuel Polytechnic, Euphemia Abdullah, the West African Christian Institute and the LCCC, in order to resist and repel any attempt by Representative Samah and others to carry out the alleged plot.
According to him, they believe that voter trucking is illegal and is only attractive to politicians who have less confidence in themselves based on their failure to impact the lives of the district’s residents, but chose to use ill-gotten public money to manipulate the people’s decision.
He said they believe that voter trucking robs the electorate of their Constitutional right and duty to choose their leaders, in keeping with Article 1 of the 1986 Constitution, which states, “All power is inherent in the people. All free government are instituted by their authority and for their benefit, and they have the right to alter and reform the same when their safety and happiness so require.”
Chairman Scere therefore called on the District Development Council (DDC), stakeholders, prominent citizens, the youths, students, marketers and intellectuals of district #12 to resist and report strange people that will be in their communities during the voter registration process.
The Friends of Jerry Yogboh has, at the same time, called on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to ensure the enforcement of, and adherence to, section 10.2(a) of the New Elections Law on voter trucking, which states, “Influencing or attempting to influence the results of elections through voter trucking is a violation of the election law.”
