House Adjourns 4th Session

House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, has called on members of the Executive and Judiciary branches of government to collaborate with the first branch, the National Legislature, in the spirit of coordination in pushing the government’s agenda.

   The Speaker made the statement on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 during the closure of the 4th session of the 54th Legislature. He commended members of the 54th Legislature for the level of work done during the period of the 4th session. He however encouraged his colleagues to visit their districts while on the break and return safely with the same legislative working strength exhibited during the past sessions.

  During the session under review, according to the Speaker, there were 61 regular sessions, 49 executive Sessions, 3 special sessions and 34 appearances of ministers and heads of agencies.

   As it relates to bills, Dr. Chambers disclosed that 65 bills were introduced in the House, of which 31 were passed. He further disclosed that 18 of those bills came from the Executive, while the House concurred with 4 bills from the Liberian Senate, and 2 joint resolutions were passed.

   He averred that 9 House of Representatives’ bills are currently in committee rooms, and there are 14 Executive bills, 7 petitions, 3 presidential communications and 1 Senate bill in committee room.

   The 54th Legislature Speaker told his colleagues that they will be informed on when to return through a joint resolution. While on break the leadership of the House will be in charge of all necessary legislative functions.
