The human rights community of Liberia say they are shocked and concerned about the wave of deadly and directed attacks targeting prominent and key actors of the society.

In a release issued over the weekend, the human rights stakeholders said these alleged attacks are in gross violations of individuals’ human rights to life, security and personal security, and protection within the state.

The rights activists said they are even more concerned about the attacks on the home and the life of former Chief Justice and a longtime human rights defender and statesperson, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott, condemning the act in no uncertain terms.

“It is registered that Cllr. Scott officially informed the Ministry of Justice’s authorities of the first and second attacks in a month on her home and life, we believe if the Ministry of Justice had acted in time the third attack would not have happened, and the young lady would have been alive today,” the human rights stakeholders stated in the press release.

“In order to ensure the protection of all citizens, including prominent and key actors within in the state, we call on the government to commission an impartial investigation into the attack on Cllr. Scott’s home and life.

“We further call on the government to put into place a human rights defenders mechanism to protect all, including key actors and prominent persons in our society who become objects of common attack today,” the release noted.
