Investigating The Investigator: Fake News!

On August 30, 1974, the Act creating the National Security Agency (NSA) was put into handbill and published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The NSA came into being after a merger between the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which was responsible for covert and overt security investigations, and the Executive Action Bureau (EAB), which was responsible for carrying out clandestine activities for the Executive; writes Sheikh O. Jalloh.

During the Tubman era in the early 70s, similar functions of the EAB were carried out by the National Intelligence Services (NISS). The NISS was dissolved after the death of President William V.S. Tubman, leaving the EAB at the time as the only clandestine agency.

On May 20, 1974, an Act repealing Sub-Chapter “D” of Chapter 1, Part 1 and Sub-Chapter “B” of Chapter 22, Part 2 of the Executive Law in relations to the EAB and the NBI created the NSA.

When the NSA was created in 1974, its sole purpose was to create a clearing house for foreign policy, intelligence and analysis. Today, its primary purpose is to collect, analyze, evaluate and disseminate foreign intelligence, perform covert actions and disseminate national security information for decision/policy makers, including the President of the Republic of Liberia.

On December 19, 2020, a forum on Facebook, “Gedehhard GHT Talkfm” posted, “#Deep Throats at NSA: Liberia’s Spy Chief, J. Henric Pearson, in a ‘deep throat’ syndicate aimed at undermining the GOL? Who are his confidantes and what role or positions they occupy at the NSA? The Costa Escape reloaded! Let’s dig deeper!”

Who was Deep Throat?

William Mark Felt, Sr. was born on August 17, 1913 and died December 18, 2008. He was an American law enforcement officer who worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 1942 to 1973. Deep Throat was the pseudonym given to William Mark Felt, the secret informant who provided information about the Watergate Scandal in 1972 to Bob Woodward, who shared it with Carl Bernstein, which led to the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. Howard Simons was the Managing Editor of the Washington Post during the Watergate Scandal. He dubbed the secret informant (William Mark Felt) Deep Throat. President Richard Nixon was impeached owing to obstruction of justice in attempting to impede the investigation of the Watergate break-in, protect those responsible, and conceal the existence of other illegal activities, abuse of power by using the Office of the Presidency on multiple occasions, dating back to his first year in power. The Assistant Director for FBI, William Mark Felt (Deep Throat), was the one who provided the information to the Washington Post to have him impeached.

Why Is The NSA Director Being Called Deep Throat?

According to the Hot Pepper’s investigation, since the inception of the Weah-led government, the NSA Director, James Henric Pearson, II, a very professional man with 32 years of intelligence-gathering background, not being a part of the ruling establishment, has seen no peace. Pearson was recommended to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia by foreign intelligence agencies with vested interest in the intelligence community of Liberia.

Unfortunately, in order to protect sources and methods in the interest of maintaining national security, most NSA employees cannot discuss their work with even their families. Most recent, the picture of the little known NSA boss was heavily publicized on the social media, followed by a lengthy talk show on Gedehhard GHT Talkfm, hosted by Michael Gailman.

The investigation revealed that, Michael Gailman, who is a cousin (on father side) to one of the deputy directors at the NSA, was paid by members of the very NSA to destroy the reputation of the NSA Director.

According to a fake and doctored communication from Benoni Urey to Director Pearson, Urey allegedly inquired, “What’s the plan?” and Director Pearson allegedly responded, “ADD is on course. I’m sending your man Sharpe to you, he will brief you. Your location?” and Urey responded, “Careysburg, Urey’s farm.”

Doctored conversation allegedly between NSA Director Pearson and ALP Political Leader Urey

During the Hot Pepper’s investigation, Benoni Urey was contacted and asked whether he knows Director Pearson. Urey responded in the affirmative that he knows Pearson. And when asked about the last time he spoke with Pearson, Urey said he could not remember, but informed the paper that he last called Pearson to congratulate him for his appointment as NSA Director by President Weah. When quizzed about the alleged chat between him and Pearson, he replied that he does not even know what the Hot Pepper was referring to, and that he would be grateful if the paper could send him a copy of the social media post.

In an interview on Jallah Grayfield’s Tough Talk, Bana FM 98.5, Gailman was asked to provide evidence to the alleged conversation between Urey and Pearson, but he could only play around the discussion and stutter for the rest of the time until he hanged off.

However, the Hot Pepper tried endlessly to get the side of the NSA Director, Pearson, but to no avail.

The NSA/Agency values candor. It does plenty of clandestine stuffs but wants candidates who display a high level of candor before and during the hiring process. Recruiters who are looking for hot prospects want candidates who have lived their lives with high degree of honesty and integrity. Unfortunately, this is not the situation at the NSA.
