The Political Leader of the Liberia People’s Party (LPP), Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, has descended on Vice President Jeremiah Koung for what he described as “irresponsible, reckless and inflammatory” comments he made recently—that a few individuals from Liberia could takeover an entire city in Guinea.

Cllr. Gongloe claimed that the statement could further escalate the tension between Guinea and Liberia. He said, “There is a current darkness permeating the circles of the Liberian government. Just two days ago, our Vice President made a very inflammatory statement that could escalate the problem between Guinea and Liberia, when he said that there are people in Liberia, that he did not want to call names that two or three of them, can take a city in Guinea. That statement was irresponsible, reckless, and inflammatory.

Cllr. Gongloe said the statement is not expected of a responsible Vice President of Liberia, as it jeopardizes the relationship between Liberia and Guinea. “We don’t need that. I said on my first comment on this border issue that I can put my head on chopping board, Guinea will never fight Liberia, because as a former presidential envoy to Guinea, I was told by the Guinean authorities that the Republic of Guinea owes so much to Liberia that it can never pay. But when there’s a problem, there should be attempts to solve them,” he observed.

According to him, he suggested that President Joseph N. Boakai establishes a Commission of Inquiry to find out what happened at the border, in order to recommend amicable solutions to the problem. “That’s what a responsible government do,” Cllr. Gongloe noted.
