The Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretariat (JCVF), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has announced the arrival of another consignment of the Japanese donated rice weighing 3,294 metric tons to Liberia.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the rice will be monetized under the Japanese Grant Commodity Program to support the government’s social economic development projects. The consignment of rice is expected to arrive on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Freeport of Monrovia on board MV Sunshine.

The release further stated that the expected consignment of rice will be sold at the Fouta Corporation and United Commodities Inc, with the support of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), at a retail price of US$16.50 for a 30kg bag.

According to the release, the Japanese donated rice is 5 kilos more than the regular 25kg presently on the Liberian market.

Meanwhile, the general public is hereby advised to report anyone selling the Japanese donated rice above its stipulated prices to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Inspectorate Division or the Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretarial at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for quick intervention to eschew further profiteering and cheating.

The Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretarial said the proceeds from the sale of the rice will go toward the construction of the Liberia-Japan Wood Workshop, which will be located in Dukpuyee, Nimba County.

“The Japanese Counterpart Value Fund Secretarial, on behalf of the Government of Liberia (GOL) graciously appreciates the government and people of Japan for their continued support to Liberia’s social economic development programs,” the release noted.
