The Network of Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA) has re-elected the Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Alexandra Kormah Zoe, as Vice President of the regional anti-corruption body.

Zoe’s re-election came through a consensus renewal of mandates at the close of NACIWA’s 7th Annual General Assembly (AGA), held in Abuja, Nigeria, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. The decision reflects recognition of Cllr. Zoe’s outstanding leadership, integrity, and commitment to strengthening anti-corruption efforts and promoting cross-border collaboration across West Africa.

The Assembly, which brought together heads of anti-corruption institutions from all ECOWAS member states, also ratified the ECOWAS Guidelines on Borderless Investigations, Asset Tracing, Recovery, and Management, calling on all member states to integrate these frameworks into national systems for harmonized implementation.

In its Communiqué, the AGA reaffirmed NACIWA’s dedication to the 2001 ECOWAS Protocol on the Fight Against Corruption, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC). The body further emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in asset recovery, mutual legal assistance, and information sharing among financial intelligence units and law enforcement agencies.

The assembly coincided with the 50th Anniversary of ECOWAS, symbolizing a renewed commitment to unity and regional collaboration in combating corruption. It urged all member institutions to domesticate and operationalize the ECOWAS Protocol within their national frameworks to ensure stronger alignment with regional objectives.

Additionally, the AGA highlighted the need for sustained collaboration with civil society organizations, youth groups, and media networks to deepen public participation and advocacy in the anti-corruption fight.

The assembly expressed appreciation to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his support and for officially declaring the event open. President Tinubu, in his opening remarks, called on ECOWAS to designate resource theft, illegal mining, and mineral smuggling as international crimes, noting the growing threat they pose to the region’s peace and economic stability.

NACIWA also welcomed new member institutions, including the Code of Conduct Bureau (Nigeria) and CPC Cabo Verde, as part of its expanding regional network.

Cllr. Zoe’s re-election as Vice President stands as a proud moment for Liberia, and reaffirms the LACC’s growing influence in shaping regional anti-corruption policy and cooperation.
