LACC Boss Takes Office Today
The former County Attorney for Montserrado County, Cllr. Edwin Martin, a veteran criminal prosecutor, who has been confirmed as Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), officially takes office today.
In a move that signals renewed commitment of the Weah administration to anti-corruption efforts, Chairman Martin was nominated and confirmed by the Liberian Senate last week.
In what appears to be a rejuvenated LACC, Cllr. Martin and Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, who is Vice Chair of the LACC who has acted as Chair for the last 3 months, were seen in a united embrace at Cllr. Martin’s Temple of Justice office on Capitol Hill.
Legal pundits are opining that the days of division and internal wrangling at the LACC are long gone, and that those who pilfer the public purse have a lot to fear from the dynamic team at the LACC.
In an official Facebook post from Cllr. Gbala regarding the appointment of Cllr. Martin, he declared that “Cllr. Martin is a big brother and senior counsel who brings years of experience to the Commission. He is a man ready and prepared to work assiduously under Cllr. Martin’s vision to lift the LACC in the coming months.”
