Hundreds of the new recruits at the Liberia National Police (LNP) training academy have been trained in post-election violence prevention, stress management, and self- care in Paynesville, suburb of Monrovia.

The psychological training was conducted by the training team from the Liberia Association of Psychological Services (LAPs).

The just-ended training was designed to enhance the ability of the new recruits as they set to embark on their areas of assignment soon.

According to Seidu Swaray, Executive Director at LAPs, who served as the lead lecturer for the post-election violence prevention and stress management among other topics presented, the training was meant to help the new recruits in handling any psychosocial situations during assignment.

He said the post-election violence prevention topic was designed to help the new recruits in uniting Liberians after the heated elections in Liberia.

LAPs boss also noted that majority of the Liberian populace are still suffering from trauma and stress, and that the training is necessary for in-coming police officers as they embark on their areas of assignment. He informed the Hot Pepper that the just-ended training focuses on various types of stress confronting the Liberian society, and knowledge acquired will enable the recruits to become vibrant in the discharge of their official duties.

The session took place on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the LNP training academy in Paynesville, and was interactive among LAPs lecturers and the new recruits.

The objective of the training, according to information, is to characterize traumatic event; definition of stress, itscharacteristics and types; contextualize stress-related factors in police officers; trauma effect and recovery analysis; post-election violence prevention; stress management and self-care and when to seek professional service.

Accordingly, LAPs hopes to build stronger relationship with the Liberia National Police (LNP), particularly itstraining department.
