Delivering his sermon at the Heritage Mosque on Gurley Street in Monrovia in commemoration of Abraham Day, June 28, 2023, the Assistant Imam of the edifice, Isiaka Abubakar Sumaworo, underscored the need for Liberians to begin to shun homosexuality from further taking root here amongst the populace, especially the youths, who are considered the future leaders.
According to Imam Sumaworo, homosexuality is forbidden by Allah, dating back to Biblical days. He frowned at it being practiced by some citizens in disobedience to the true teaching of the Creator of Heaven and Earth.
He voiced that no godly religion on Planet Earth should subscribe to the practice of homosexuality, lest to mention Liberia, adding that this act has the proclivity to hang a dark cloud over its population, particularly the future generations, and leads to a sad end.
Imam Sumaworo was quick to add that the Christian and Muslim communities, among other institutions or religious bodies, including traditionalists the world over, are said to be rejecting this peril from permeating their inner circle, as it is forbidden by God Almighty.
He recalled that, due to the vicious practice of homosexuality or same sex relationship, God during the days of old cursed a large population of people and sent destruction on them for being defiant to His Word.
Imam Sumaworo further indicated that the time is now for mankind, especially Liberians, to shun the sinful act in the universe, if they are to inherit God’s Kingdom during the day of judgement.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Imam of the Heritage Mosque, Isiaka Abubakar Sumaworo, said he wants Liberians to uphold the relative peace and tranquility the nation and its people are currently enjoying.
Imam Sumaworo opined that as Liberia gears up for the October 10, 2023 presidential and legislative polls, it is incumbent upon every peace-loving citizen to keep and maintain the peace and ensure that the electioneering process across the country is free of violence.
Turning on politicians, Assistant Imam Sumaworo admonished them, presidential hopefuls or aspirants opting for senatorial and representative seats, to make the utmost sacrifices by being peaceful during the conduction of the biometric voting system to be managed by the National Elections Commission(NEC) and under the watchful eyes of local and international observers.
Not only that, the Islamic cleric said he also wants presidential and legislative aspirants to strive to be nationalistic and shun election violence, thereby conceding and accepting the results of the impending October 10 polls that would be announced by the NEC, in the interest of total peace, which Liberians and foreign nationals are enjoying in the country.
He urged the youthful population in Liberia not to allow themselves to be swayed by politicians who might want to remote-control them to create unnecessary tension during the election for their personal interest and to stall the voting processes in all parts of the nation.
Imam Sumaworo reminded the youths that Liberia is the only common denominator that they have, and they must not fall prey to the whims and caprices of dishonest politicians to inflame violence in Liberia during and after the October 10 general and presidential elections.
