The Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Cybastion Institute of Technology for a data center and additional underwater cable in Liberia.

The MOU is an expression of interest and marked the official commencement of technical discussions with relevant government agencies aimed at delivering digital services under the “Digital Fast Track Program”, which includes enhancing digital infrastructure, services and transformation in Liberia.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in New York, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti said the MOU is of critical importance to Liberia, and particularly to the Foreign Ministry, because of its significance in secure communication.

Minister Nyanti said as Liberia moves towards being a part of global governance and multilateral structures for managing peace and security, it needs to be trusted with its communication system.

Foreign Minister Nyanti noted that Liberia will explore the opportunity to be a part of such a platform in a way that guarantees the information security of other countries. She noted that the MOU is being signed at the time when Liberia is focusing on e-governance and other areas of technology.

Minister Nyanti assured that Liberia will explore every opportunity to strengthen cybersecurity and data management.

Under the MOU, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication, working with the Foreign Ministry, will be responsible to implement key features.

Based in Washington, D.C., the Cybastion Institute of Technology provides a variety of training certifications and diplomas through partnerships with universities across the United States.

It has been implementing cybersecurity and digital transformation projects in several countries across Africa, including Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin, Central Africa Republic and Namibia.
