Liberia Gets US$9.3 Million World Bank Grant

The World Bank has approved US$9.3 million in additional grant to the Government of Liberia (GOL) for the cheesemanburg Landfill and urban sanitation (CLUS) project.

   In a communication to the Deputy Minister for Economic Management at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Augustus J. Flomo, dated Tuesday, June 30, 2020, the bank’s expert for Urban Development and Resilience Unit, Farouk Mollah Banna, thanked Liberian delegation to the Bank for their diligence through the virtual negotiations in acquiring the grant.

   Banna conveyed his gratitude to Samuel D. Tweah, Jr., Minister of Finance and Development Planning, as well as the mayors of Monrovia and Paynesville for their leadership in working to conclude the project. He revealed that the signing ceremony of the grant will take place upon completion of vital documents.     The Cheesemanburg Landfill and Urban Sanitation project for Liberia is to provide access to solid waste management (SWM) services in Monrovia.
