Two young Liberians are expected to travel to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on October 3, 2022 to attend the prestigious Nigerian Defense Academy for 5 years as part of capacity building and Human Resource Development in the Armed Forces of Liberia.

Cadet James Flomo and Philomena Williams, who just completed high school, will study and train at the Nigerian Air Force and Naval Academies. After successful completion of the 5-year training, it is projected that they will be commissioned as Liberian Coast Guard and Air Wing Officers.

Based in Kaduna, Nigeria, the Nigerian Defense Academy trains officer cadets for commissioning into one of the three services of the Nigerian Armed Forces: the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. The duration of training at the Nigerian Defence Academy is five years (four years academic, one-year military).

Selection of the cadets was based on an impartial process that entailed candidates’ desires and qualifications, including academic, and age limitation (17—21), among others.

Since the restructuring of the AFL, Nigeria has provided several training opportunities for the AFL, which has contributed immensely to capacity building and personalizing the AFL as “A Force for Good”.
