LNP Feeds SUP Protestors
As expected, the University of Liberia-based vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) continued its “FixTheCountry” protest on August 24, 2022 during the celebration of the National Flag Day.
But unlike the Independence Day protest, when SUPists clashed with members of CDC-COP, yesterday’s protest began and ended peacefully, with the Liberia National Police (LNP) providing cooked meal for the protesting students.
On the eve of the much-publicized protest, the Inspector General of the LNP, Patrick Sudue, and some ranking officers of the LNP met with the leadership of the Student Unification Party (SUP) and held a fruitful discussion with them.
Accordingly, IG Sudue assured the students that the LNP would take control of the security matter, in order to avert unnecessary tension.
Militants and stalwarts of SUP were seen parading the principal streets of Monrovia on Flag Day in continuation of the “FixTheCountry” protest. They were seen around the U.S. embassy, upper Benson Street, where they, in their numbers, marched toward their Capitol Hill campus.
At the entry of the UL campus, the SUPists created a roadblock using armchairs, with their Chairman, Mustapha Kanneh, standing on one of the chairs to mesmerize his audience.
After the hectic day’s protest, the students were rescued by the LNP, providing them meal and bottles of water to apparently replenish the energy they used during the protest.
Meanwhile, observers have praised the leadership of Col. Sudue for the smart intervention, as it is arguably the first of its kind in the history of protestations in the country.
