The Liberia National Police (LNP) is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Varfee Swaray, an adult who was accused of stealing a bike. The incident took place at the SD Cooper Road’s intersection on Friday, June 14, 2024, at about 10:05 p.m.

Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect attempted to steal a motorbike that he had chartered from an unknown location to the SD Cooper Road’s intersection in Paynesville. They explained that the suspect called upon his criminal gangs, who then attacked the motorcyclist, fired a gun, and made away with the stolen bike.

Tragically, one of the gang members, identified as Varfee Swaray, was apprehended by bystanders and set on fire.

The victim was immediately taken to the JFK for medical attention, but unfortunately, was later pronounced dead by doctors on duty.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) is meanwhile assuring the general public that a manhunt has been ordered, and all zones and depots have been put on full alert to bring those involved in the robbery incident to book.

The LNP is at the same time warning members of the public to do away with mob violence and respect the rule of law. The police continues investigation into the incident.
