In commemoration of its Taxpayers Appreciation Week, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) last week held a number of activities under the theme, “Moving to Billions: Increased Tax Compliance for National Transformation”.
The Commissioner General of LRA, Thomas Doe Nah, informed newsmen that the Taxpayer Appreciation Week focused on the 2nd National Revenue Symposium, the graduation of the 2nd batch of customs officers, the opening of a one-stop service window at the Ministerial complex and a taxpayer appreciation award dinner.
The LRA boss stated that the 2nd National Revenue Symposium happens during a period when the Government of Liberia (GOL) has set its goal toward an expansionary revenue strategy that ensures a continued year on year growth as the country moves to billion.
“This forum allows us to have a conversation on strategic steps and guidance that will lead us to sustainable mobilization of domestic revenue,” Commissioner General Nah asserted.
According to him, Domestic Resource Mobilization is the hinge that supports the pro-poor agenda and the medium for financing domestic investment and socio- economic programs that are critical to national transformation and poverty eradication.
Nah averred that the symposium also creates a platform for interrogating existing deals on digitalization while they seek innovative solutions to tax administration and service delivery.
“With the avert COVID-19 the LRA took numerous steps to limit human interactions and advance to digital space. Our digital ecosystems point to many mode of payments: e-filing tax, e-tax clearance, electronic fiscal device, excise stamps control, receipt verification and simplified custom declaration,” the LRA boss noted.
Commissioner General Nah explained that the tax appreciation week was meant to celebrate taxpayers who have complied with the payment of legitimate taxes.
On Thursday, December 9, 2021, the LRA dedicated the one-stop shop on the ground floor of the Ministerial Complex, and on Friday, December 10, 2021 they converged at the National Police Training Academy to witness the graduation of sixty (60) customs officers. On Saturday, they convened at the Ministerial Complex’s ball room for the celebration and appreciation of compliant taxpayers in various categories.
Speaking at the Symposium on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, LRA Commissioner Nah disclosed that the celebration of the taxpayers appreciation week will climax on December 15, 2021 in Kakata, Margibi County, with the launch of the Real Property Tax Expansion Pilot Project. “This pilot project is monumental and historic in our existence because it opens the door for counties to retain a share of revenue collected from real property, in consonance with the Local Government Act,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Thomas Doe Nah, has called on all individuals and businesses that are non-tax compliant to join the chorus of happy taxpayers who are contributing to Liberia’s Transformation.
Commissioner Doe Nah noted that the objective of the LRA is to professionally, fairly, transparently and effectively collect lawful revenues and facilitate legitimate trade and social protection for the people of Liberia.
