The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has begun piloting its new digital system, the Liberian Integrated Tax Administration System (LITAS), in Grand Bassa County.

The system seeks to digitalize different tax payment processes and procedures, and to enhance transparency in tax administration in the country.

With LITAS, the Buchanan Tax Business Office (TBO) will have the ability to electronically ensure, among others, taxpayers registration, recording of payments and issuing system-generated receipts.

Taxpayers, regardless of the category, will be able to view their tax transactions and balances, and perform return filing as well as viewing their compliance level.

The LRA has already conducted a series of training with staff at the Buchanan TBO and equipped the office with the required logistic to ensure that tax-paying processes through LITAS are easier and more convenient for taxpayers.

Speaking at a two-day training of LRA staff on the use of the system in Buchanan, LRA Manager of Modernization, Ambrose Bonney, said the new system will not only boost transparency but will further reduce turnaround times of transaction for both the tax collector and the taxpayer.

Staff of the Liberia Business Registry (LBR) and the Ministry Commerce and Industry formed part of the training to enhance collaboration in their respective duties.

Grand Bassa is the second county where the LRA has trained staff to use the new digital system, which will eventually move across the country.

The LRA officially launched LITAS in Monrovia on October 1, 2022, initially for large taxpayers and selected medium taxpayers.

The pilot implementation has been concentrated mostly on taxpayers situated in Montserrado County and natural resource taxpayers whose operations are outside of Montserrado County.
