Several candidates have begun to throw in their hats in the political race of 2023, and one of them is Martin Sunny-Boy Junius, who has vowed to contest for Margibi County’s district #1 representative seat. The Margibi County district #1’s incumbent Representative is Tilberosa Tanponweh, who was elected in 2017.

According to Representative Aspirant Junius, the job is not limited to old folks, as is thought by many Liberians. “Representative job is for young men who have integrity that they built over the years,” Junius said, “and would like to maintain it when they enter the House of Representatives.”

The district is a demarcation between Monrovia and Margibi County. Citizens of both counties interact on a daily basis, but Junius pointed out that the district and Montserrado County should be on par in terms of development, security protection, and so on.

He said that there are several lapses in the district, which Representative Tanponweh failed to address since his ascendancy. He outlined the lack of health facilities, youth empowerment, scholarships, women empowerment, loan, and so on, as among them. However, the Hot Pepper has not independently verified his claimed.

He promised upon his ascendancy as representative to have a positive impact on the district.

“My platform is accountability, health, security, education, transparency, youth and women empowerment, and so on,” he said.

To prove his seriousness about the representative seat, he has begun with a mini project in the district.

“I recently bought brooms, whippers and gave them Schefflin Town for sanitation purposes,” he said. “That is not what we have done in the district, but have carried out some projects that are impacting the people.”

Election is money-driven, and politicians depend on their pockets in Liberia to persuade the electorate. He lamented the inadequate funding for his political bid in 2023, but nevertheless vowed to oust Representative Tanponweh.

The representative-aspirant, whose background is the security sector, said he would curtail the proliferation of ghettos and thugs in the district, who often harass peaceful citizens.
