MasterCard, GT Bank Launch Innovative Payment Gateway Service

MasterCard, a global leader in payment solutions, and Guaranty Trust Bank Liberia (GTCO Liberia), one of the leading financial institutions operating in Liberia, in a strategic collaboration launched an advanced payment gateway service in Liberia.

  The MasterCard and Guaranty Trust Bank Liberia’s official launching program of the payment gateway service was held at the Royal Grand Hotel in Sinkor on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

   In a brief overview, GT Bank Liberia Managing Director, Ikenna Anekwe, said the new partnership aims to revolutionize the digital payment landscape in Liberia by leveraging MasterCard’s cutting-edge technology and GTCO Liberia’s banking network.

   GT Bank Managing Director Anekwe also noted that the launch of the new technology in Liberia marks a significant milestone in the effort to promote financial inclusion and drive economic growth.

   “The innovative payment gateway will provide individuals, businesses and government entities with a secure, convenient, and seamless digital payment solution,” Anekwe averred.

   With the MasterCard payment gateway service, customers will have access to a wide range of payment options, including card payments, mobile wallets, and QR code-based transactions.

   This will enable users to make quick and secure payments for goods and services, both online and in-store, while enjoying the benefits of MasterCard’s global acceptance network.

   The collaboration between MasterCard and GTCO Liberia represents a major step forward in advancing the digital payment ecosystem in Liberia that will empower individuals and businesses, helping them to unlock new opportunities and drive economic growth.

   The MasterCard payment gateway service offers enhanced security features, including tokenization and multi-factor authentication to protect customers’ financial data and provide peace of mind during transaction.

   Moreover, the partnership will enable GTCO Liberia to leverage MasterCard’s vast network of merchants, empowering local businesses to accept digital payment and expand their customer base.

   Also, in a brief statement, Mastercard Regional Director for West Africa, Eno Hanson, said by combining their expertise and resources they aim to accelerate the adoption of digital payments making it easier and more secure for customers to transact.

   Mastercard Regional Director Hanson further stated that the partnership aligns with their commitment to providing innovative financial solutions and drive economic progress in Liberia.

   Meanwhile, the MasterCard payment gateway service will be rolled out in phases, starting with selected merchants and gradually expanding to cover a wide range of businesses across Liberia.

   Gracing the event were major business stakeholders and other entrepreneurs, who lauded the GTBank and Mastercard for launching such an innovative program, the first of its kind in Liberia.
