The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR)-USA Chapter, headed by George S.S. Wuo as Chairman, has condemned the attack on Senator Prince Y. Johnson’s Christ Chapel of Faith Ministries during his morning service on Sunday, May 21, 2023.

The MDR-USA Chapter Chairman, in a press statement, condemned the inhumane act allegedly organized by the ruling coalition, precisely the Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor of the National Patriotic Party (NPP).

Chairman Wuo noted that the unprecedented attack on Senator Johnson is naïve and out of democratic practice. According to him, VP Taylor, a few years ago, openly criticized the idea of a war crimes court, but for fear of political defeat in the up-coming 2023 elections the ruling establishment has reverted to the strategy of creating an atmosphere of fear, chaos and instability in the country.

“Her action needs to be reminded about remarks she made years ago when she rejected the establishment of a war crimes court. Our question to Madam Taylor is, Why now?

“I think it is time to expose her hypocrisy to the Liberian people and let Senator Johnson carry on his pastoral journey. If you want to challenge him and the people of Nimba, make your case at the ballot box in the up-coming election,” Chairman Wuo observed.

He maintained, “Let this be a warning to would-be attackers to desist from this act of violence and do the Liberian people’s work.”

Meanwhile, the MDR-USA Chapter is calling on the international community, ECOWAS and other partners to speedily intervene and bring the situation under control.

The group said they are preparing to fully support the popular “rescue ticket” of JNB and JKK. “It is our hope that Liberians will uphold the peace throughout the up-coming elections,” the statement noted.
