Since the coming in of the Unity Party government, particularly its stance on corruption and the prosecution of former officials of the CDC government, there has been divided views and opinions on the effort to combat corruption and hold former officials liable for their actions.

Speaking to the Hot Pepper via mobile phone, Bobby McCaully Flomo, a Liberian based in the United States of America, descended on President Joseph N. Boakai government’s prosecution of past officials of the CDC administration, describing it a mere bluff.

Flomo lamented that the presidency of Liberia has taken the issue of prosecution of former officials as a mere political bluff, with no tangible effect at the end. He claimed that records show that many former Presidents ascend to the presidency with the promise to prosecute corrupt officials or fight corruption, but in the end they do nothing, and corruption remains permissible in the society.

He said the UP government’s initiative to prosecute former officials of the CDC government is necessary, but pointed out that the effort may not yield any fruit as anticipated due to the lack of political will to end corruption and impunity.

Flomo called on President Boakai and the UP administration to focus their attention on key issues confronting the forward of Liberia, including job creation, employment, infrastructure development, economic growth and youth and women empowerment.

The diaspora Liberian alleged that the Boakai administration has started to waste funds from the Liberian people intended for something else. β€œThis action from the government was meant only to gain mere sentiments from the public. It will not go anywhere,” Flomo stated.
