The Liberty Christian Center has turned over to the Ministry of Justice a modern health facility at the Monrovia Central Prison, to be used by the inmates of the prison and their handlers.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, the Assistant Minister for Correction, Ministry of Justice, Eddie Tarawali, said the Bureau of Corrections has been faced with serious challenges when it comes to receiving support to attend to the health of inmates in correction centers in the country. He said one of their jobs as correction personnel is to ensure a better life for inmates, and that they will do so without leaving any stone unturned.

He reminded the government and its partners that the issues of health is very important in running national security prisons, and called on the Ministry of Health to pay key attention to the prisons.

At the same time, the President/Founder of Liberty Christian Center, Rev. Simeon L. Dunbar, giving the keynote address during the dedication ceremony of the health facility for inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison, said the initiative taken by the church is not based on politics but as a disciple of Christ through the act of sharing and caring for those in need.

According to Rev. Dunbar, the decision to build the clinic was made to contribute to the government’s rehabilitation effort as the number of people in prison continues to rise.

He disclosed that the Liberian government and its citizens would benefit from the rehabilitation of prisoners, as opposed to their total incarceration, especially those who have shown themselves to be skilled in various professions.

Rev. Simeon L. Dunbar called on the government to increase budgetary allocation and essential funding for prison reform in Liberia.

The founder of the LCC said there is a need for the relocation to the outskirts of the city limits a prison facility of such magnitude in order to provide a conducive environment for prisoners and their handlers, in fostering correction in rehabilitation.
