New Kru Town Fire Victims Receive Initial Cash, Kind Donations
The three-month old motherless twin and their father of the fire incident in New Kru Town have received some initial donations in cash and kind from Comfort Mulbah Kamara and the Founder of Ward Fund Organization, Vivia Ward-Worjloh.
These interventions come a few weeks after the mother of the babies, Patience Gaye, and her two bigger children, 10 and 13 years old boy and girl, died in the tragic fire incident in New Kru Town.
Since the incident, their jobless father, Mustapha Samah, alongside other family members, has consistently pleaded with the government and humanitarian institutions, as well as kindhearted individuals, to assist him with shelter and food for his babies, along with cash to take care of other important needs.
It can be recalled that early Friday morning, January 12, 2024, at about 1:00 local Liberian time fire gutted a two-bedroom zinc shack located right at the back of the Samuel Slewion Doe Memorial Institute (SSDMI), opposite the famous Duala Market in the Borough of Krutown, Montserrado County’s electoral district #16.
The father of the children disclosed that the actual cause of the fire is yet to be established, despite the fact that the nation’s premier power supplier, Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), was actively supplying current at the time of the incident.
However, Comfort Mulbah Kamara, the wife of Montserrado County’s electoral district #15 Representative, Abu Bana Kamara, upon reading the first publication of the incident visited the family and provided some materials.
Madam “K”, as she is called by many, presented baby milk, pampers, clothes, oil, rice, soap and an undisclosed amount of money, terming the gesture as her initial way of providing assistance for the father with the babies.
“When I saw these beautiful kids in the news, tears rolled from my eyes, but who are we to ask God why this happened? My people, y’all have my deepest sympathy for the deaths of these kids’ mother and the other two children; this is so painful,” she said.
At the same time, Kamara has promised to engage other institutions and individuals about the sad happening and further try in her own way to return to the bereaved family with additional help.
Also, the Founder and Chairperson of the Ward Fund Organization, Vivian Ward-Worjloh, through the NGO’s Coordinator, Lovina J. Krangar, donated a sum of US$100 to the family for the babies.
Karngar, on the instruction of her boss, made an initial check at the home of the bereaved family and took some photos with the motherless twin for the purpose of authenticating the report and reverted it to her boss.
“My boss came across this human interest story reported by Journalist Blamo N. Toe and developed interest in helping, but first I came here to find out if the story was really true, and of course it was true, and that’s how I told Madam Worjloh, and after that she sent this US$100 to help the kids,” the NGO’s Liberia Coordinator noted.
According to her, it is the passion of the donor to help in protecting the future of Liberian children who experienced a similar situation of the twin, including rape cases and others.
Karngar added that the organization has over the years provided assistance to hundreds of Liberian children, underscoring that it is buttressing the government through the provision of education and medication.
These donations were made recently in the Borough of Kru Town, where the incident occurred.
In remarks, one of the family members and the Chairperson of the Karpeh Street Community, Decontee Woto, thanked the donors for the interventions, emphasizing that they are the only individuals who have made such denotations since the incident occurred.
