The National Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned and distanced itself from what it terms an unrealistic statement made by its former National Chairman, Senator James P. Biney, that the government has done absolutely nothing to boast of during a program of endorsement by people believed to be staffers at the Capitol Building on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

A release issued by the NPP on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 says, “The assertion made by Senator Biney on radio and the social media that the roads and electricity in the southeast and other places in the country were not projects executed by the Weah government is a blatant lie and does not represent the reality on the ground.”

The party, in the strongly worded press release, described Senator Biney’s statement as a total misrepresentation of the facts and well-intended calculation to discredit and undermine the tremendous gains made by the CDC government. The party said it believes that the former Chairman’s statement is not motiveless, but a scheme to unpopularize the CDC to the advantage of the opposition, which they say he has aligned with.

“Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the former Chairman was removed from his post as Chairman for being in violation of the party’s constitution, specifically Article 8, Section 8.7 e&g, ‘Breach of duties to uphold publicly party policy and bringing the party into disrepute or public ridicule’. This was predicated on the results of an outcome from the party’s Grievance and Ethics Committee report and recommendation to the National Executive Committee.

“The party wishes to inform the Liberian people, including partisans, supporters and sympathizers, that the NPP remains unwaveringly supportive to the aims, objectives and philosophy of the Coalition for Democratic Change and the Weah-Taylor ticket. The party encourages its partisans not to listen to statements that have the proclivity of undermining the unity and morale of the coalition,” the release continued.
