On Friday, May 2, 2025, Orange Liberia celebrated a major milestone at Orange Icon 16—the successful completion of the ACE cable fiber rerouting project.
Orange Liberia stated that, during the ACE cable rerouting by the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) and CCL, Orange Liberia promised uninterrupted service and delivered with support from Orange marine’s Pierre de Fermat, and kept individuals and businesses connected across Liberia.
Orange Liberia’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Greg Cardoza, said the journey began 2—3 years ago under the visionary leadership of the CEO. Orange Liberia launched a digitization program with a strong focus on national connectivity.
At that time, he said, Liberia depended on only one fiber route; but recognizing the vulnerability Orange made a bold decision to invest in its own fiber infrastructure.
“We initially reached out to other MNOs for partnership, but when no one stepped forward, we took the bold and independent route,” Cardoza observed.
He disclosed, “Last year, when the nation faced a major blackout due to a fiber cut, we were fortunate to receive provisional approval from LTA to establish cross-border connectivity. Thanks to that decision, Orange was able to maintain services and support others during the crisis.”
Cardoza explained that earlier this year, when LTA and CCL called on them to secure national connectivity, they knew it would be a significant responsibility, and they faced several serious challenges-fiber cuts, fire incidents, road accidents, and even community disturbances impacting service.
In response, he said they deployed special monitoring teams who traveled multiple times daily from Monrovia to Loaggato—only to protect the infrastructure and ensure service continuity.
“Over just four intense days, we executed multiple actions with precision and urgency. We met the mandate with exceptional commitment and performance. As a shareholder in CCL, Orange plays a dual role: first, by actively supporting and securing CCL’s operations; and second, by providing backup connectivity to strengthen national resilience,” Cardoza observed.
He then acknowledged the outstanding leadership of the CCL Chairman and CEO, whom he said played a truly instrumental role from overseeing planning, duct preparations, to coordinating the entire restoration. He said his efforts were critical to the successful completion of this operation.
This achievement, he said, is not just about restoring connectivity, but about collaboration, resilience, and leadership. “Together, we have strengthened Liberia’s digital backbone,” he exclaimed.
At the same time, the Head of Business Continuity and Crisis Management (BCCM), Bamoro Traore, extended gratitude to the Government of Liberia (GOL), the LTA, and the CCL for their leadership in advancing Liberia’s digital infrastructure and their trust in Orange Liberia’s ability to connect the country to the rest of the world.
Traore highlighted how Orange Liberia’s preparedness and agile response safeguarded Liberia’s connectivity during the recent four-day ACE cable outage. “Boldness drove us to proactively invest in redundant infrastructure, including our terrestrial fiber link connecting Liberia to Côte d’Ivoire,” he stated.
Traore said this backbone became Liberia’s lifeline, seamlessly supporting 100% of international and internet traffic nationwide, ensuring businesses, institutions, and citizens experienced minimal disruption.
He emphasized that “responsibility” is at the heart of their operations; as such, their technical teams worked tirelessly to monitor and optimize traffic, while cross-border collaboration with Orange Côte d’Ivoire, their parent company, guaranteed stability.
According to Traore, the crisis reaffirmed the importance of robust contingency planning, a cornerstone of Orange Liberia’s BCCM framework.
“By prioritizing service continuity, we upheld our promise to keep Liberians connected to opportunities, loved ones, and critical services—even in challenging times. To our customers, your trust inspires us. To our partners, your collaboration strengthens us. Together, we are proving that Liberia’s digital future is not just a vision; it is a reality we build daily through innovation, resilience, and shared purpose,” Traore noted.
“Orange Liberia remains committed to investing in infrastructure that empowers progress. Because when we are bold, responsible, and caring, no challenge is insurmountable,” he added.
