A Liberian female, Oumu Sall, has been elected Executive Committee Member for West Africa at the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) during its recent 14th elective congress.
Sall was nominated by the Liberia National Student Union (LINSU) as candidate from Liberia to contest for the position.
In a release issued by AASU on December 16, 2025, the African student group announced the successful conduct of the second and final phase of its election for the 14th elective congress, in accordance with its constitution and electoral guideline.
According to the release, the election was conducted to fill outstanding executive committee and secretariat positions.
Among those elected on the Executive Committee were Jaber Maataoui (Morocco), Vice President for North Africa; Crescence Naomie Mban-ny (Cameroon), Vice President for Central Africa; Buthanani Thobela (South Africa), Vice President for Southern Africa; Habiba Mohammed Abdallah (Egypt), Executive Committee Member for North Africa; Oumu Sall (Liberia), Executive Committee Member for West Africa; Benita Ndokolo Mfuke (DR Congo), Executive Committee Member for Central Africa; Stellah Akur Garang (South Sudan), Executive Committee Member for East Africa; and Esther Gomani (Malawi), Executive Committee Member for Southern Africa.
Sall’s election to AASU comes a few months after the passing of Varney Jarsey, who served as President of the institution.
Meanwhile, Oumu Sall has expressed thanks and appreciation to AASU’s delegates for the confidence reposed in her and the Liberia National Student Union (LINSU) for her nomination.
She observed that the election has further strengthened her resolve to support programs that amplify student voices and deepen regional cooperation among student organizations and unions across West Africa.
