President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. on Thursday held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

The meeting focused on strengthening Liberia–France relations, deepening cooperation in key development areas, and advancing Liberia’s international aspirations.

During the talks, President Boakai highlighted Liberia’s historic role as Africa’s oldest republic and one of the four original signatories to the United Nations Charter.

He noted that, despite this legacy, Liberia is the only one of the four countries that has never served a full term on the UN Security Council—making its current win on the non-permanent seat both symbolic and strategic.

The Liberian Leader called on President Macron to champion Liberia’s nomination as Chair and Co-Chair for four (4) sanctions committees when the discussions move to the P5 level.

President Boakai also renewed Liberia’s focus on inclusive growth, highlighting initiatives that empower women and persons with disabilities.

Both sides recognized the importance of translating these discussions into action through technical cooperation and follow-up mechanisms agreed upon during the visit.

In a gesture of friendship, President Boakai extended an invitation to President Macron for a state visit to Liberia—an invitation the French Leader warmly accepted.

Both Presidents instructed their respective ministries of Foreign Affairs to work out the modalities and timelines for the visit.

President Boakai expressed appreciation to President Macron and the people of France for their friendship and partnership toward Liberia’s progress and transformation.
