The President of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), Mohammed Keita, recently released his year-end statement, in which he highlighted the achievements and challenges of the organization in the year under review. ULAA is the umbrella organization of Liberians based in the United States of America.

Keita noted that his organization has been faced with numerous challenges, including financial constraints and limited resources, but despite these challenges they remain robust and viable in tackling issues confronting Liberia and making significant strides in achieving what was anticipated.

President Keita disclosed that, during the year under review ULAA raised over US$300,000 in pledges and cash, with plans to acquire multi-purpose complexes in Louisiana and Liberia.

Still on some achievements made during the period in review, he said ULAA’s leadership met with President Joe Biden for the extension of the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) to 2026, which was approved by the Biden administration.

According to him, several Liberians in the United States of America are confronted with legitimate document issues, for which the DED extension by the Biden administration was a welcomed development.
He at the same time disclosed ULAA’s plans for 2025, noting that this year ULAA will hold a three-day event, which will include a forum on out-of-country voting on April 26, 2025, a fundraising program and a groundbreaking ceremony for the multi-purpose complex on April 27, 2025.

Moreover, he said, during this time of the year, ULAA’s officials in Liberia will use the opportunity to officially register ULAA in Liberia as a legitimate organization from the United States of America, as well as establish a new bank account for ULAA’s social service in Liberia.

When questioned about the development initiatives of ULAA, President Keita responded that ULAA’s development initiatives at home represent their commitment to addressing issues affecting Liberia.
