The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, has by proclamation declared Tuesday, November 29, 2022, as the 127th Birth Anniversary of the late William V.S. Tubman, Liberia’s 18th President, and is to be celebrated throughout the length and breadth of the Republic as a public holiday.

President Weah has further ordered and directed that all government ministries, agencies, business houses and market places be closed on that day from six o’clock ante meridian to six o’clock post meridian.

A Foreign Ministry release says the observance is in recognition of former President Tubman’s productive, productive, meaningful services and policies, including the Integration Policy, the Granting of Suffrage to Women, as well as national policies and many other socio-economic developments.

The late former President is also being remembered for his contributions to the emancipation of African colonial territories into statehood.

President Weah noted in the Proclamation that the observance is in recognition of the numerous contributions, profound changes and lasting accomplishments made by the former President during his administration, for which the citizens of the Republic express their deep appreciation for his esteem, outstanding, noble, and remarkable leadership through a petition that requested the National Legislature to issue permanent record of their sentiments in honor of his birth for posterity.

The Presidential Proclamation is in consonance with an act of the National Legislature at its 3rd Session, 42nd Legislature of the Republic declaring November 29 of each year as a national holiday in keeping with the will of the Liberian people.
