Presidential Press Secretary: Pres. Weah Maintains Development Stance
Presidential Press Secretary, Isaac Solo kelgbeh, has told reporters of the Executive Mansion that, amid the wrath of COVID-19, President George M. Weah is not deterred to liquefy his development agenda for Liberia’s progress but remains focused to carry out development projects.
The Presidential Press Secretary made the disclosure during the Executive Mansion regular press briefing at the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
He stated that President Weah will, on Tuesday October 13, 2020, break ground for the construction of a modern Duala Market, dedicate a market in Ganta on October 16, 2020 and two bridges in Grand Cape Mount County on October 20, 2020.
He added that the President will soon dedicate the new “Gobachop” market at the former Omega Tower, managed by the Paynesville City Major.
He added that the wrath of the coronavirus is subsiding; therefore, every development project that was halted will soon start, including the Robertsfield road project.
About the President’s county tour, the Press Secretary intoned that the tour will not be possible for the year 2020 because the COVID-19 brought everything to a standstill. He observed that 2021 will be the best time for the President’s tour of the leeward counties, at which time the wrath of covid-19 will have completely subsided.
For the pending referendum, he stated that it is the President’s heartbeat because if the referendum is voted for it would benefit Liberia greatly—physically, educationally, socially, and so on. He urged media practitioners and community leaders to publicize the significance of the pending referendum to the masses so that they can turn out in the numbers and vote for their senators, representatives and the referendum that will transform Liberia greatly. He added that there are several development plans on the President’s mind to fulfill, and he will surely fulfill them.
He frowned on the former passport boss, Andrew Wonploe, whom he said is giving misleading information to the public. He noted that Wonploe’s information, which allegedly indicts the President, is false and has no iota of truth. He continued that Wonploe was not under duress to sell Liberian passports to foreign nationals, especially diplomatic passports; he did it willfully and greedily.
The Presidential Press Secretary, who just returned from abroad, told media practitioners that the construction of the Robert International Airport road has three phases: resettlement and demolition of structures along the road, construction of the road from the airport to the Coca Cola-constructed bridge, and from the bridge to ELWA intersection. He observed that the resettlement and demolition process resumes next week.
