The Vice Chairman of the Senate Statutory Committee on Foreign Affairs, River Gee County Senator, Conmany B. Wesseh, has cautioned Liberians to do away with vices that plunge the country back to the days of the civil war.

Serving as proxy for the President Protempore of the Liberian Senate, Albert T. Chie, at the First Event of the Dialogue to Consolidate Peace, Stability and Development in Liberia, held Thursday at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Senator Wesseh noted that policy makers have a duty to remind Liberians that the way forward to development is doing the things that will not lead the country back to war again.

He pointed out that following 20 years of uninterrupted peace, the need for activities that will constantly educate and remind Liberians, especially the youth, to keep the peace and stability of the country cannot be overemphasized.

In a presentation, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Ren Yisheng, highlighted the role of China in contributing to the sustainable development goal of Liberia in the area of infrastructure, agriculture, education, as well as economic corporation, amongst others.

Ambassador Yisheng used the occasion to also point to the long-lasting foreign ties between his country and Liberia, at the same time assuring of China’s commitment to support the country’s peace and development.

The event was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Bhofal Chambres, lawmakers, ministers and the ambassadors of the United States and Germany, representative of ECOWAS as well as civil society organizations, amongst others.

It was held under the theme, “Strengthened Development Cooperation for Sustainable Development”.
