A modern radio station capable of covering the entire southeastern region of Liberia is under construction in Maryland County.

The project, which is estimated at over US$40,000, is being single handedly sponsored by the county’s electoral district #3 representative, Austin Taylor, as part of his development plan for the region.

When completed, the station will transmit programs of entertainment, reconciliation and information in the local dialects, as well as in English, to keep the people abreast of unfolding events in the country.

Among the direct beneficiaries of the two kilowatts radio station are residents of Maryland, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Sinoe and Grand Kru counties.

Disclosing this to the Hot pepper at his Capitol Hill office in Monrovia last Thursday, Representative Taylor also spoke about other efforts he is making to help eradicate poverty from his district.

He revealed that his objective is to improve education, transportation and health, which he described as stumbling blocks in eradicating poverty from the district.

The lawmaker disclosed that, due to the lack of government support to education and healthcare delivery, he has begun providing regular stipend to volunteer teachers and nurses in order to keep them on duty at their respective schools and health post across the district. The Maryland County Representative pinpointed that his intervention has paved the way for children to return to school and the sick to receive proper medication.

As part of his development plan for Maryland County in general, the lawmaker disclosed that a total of about three hundred students attending the Tubman University are currently on his private scholarship, and that he hopes to increase the number further to enhance university education in the county.

When contacted on mobile phone, a senior elder of Barribo District, one of the three administrative districts represented by the lawmaker in the House of Representative, confirmed the on-going radio project for the southeast and other projects undertaken by Representative Taylor to improve the living standard of the people in the area and beyond.

The resident noted that in less than three months following his victory in last October’s election the Maryland County Representative has fulfilled almost half of what he promised the people in district three.

He pointed that Representative Taylor has made further promise to continue his service to the people as long as he remains representative of the district.
