The House of Representatives (HOR) has instructed its Joint Committee on Judiciary, Education, and Ways and Means to review an act establishing student loans for higher education.

Plenary took the decision on Thursday, October 23, 2025, during its regular sitting, following a communication from Grand Gedeh County’s district #2 Representative, Marie Johnson.

Representative Johnson said the intent of the bill is to create an equitable financial support mechanism to enable Liberian students seeking higher education to access affordable loans—thereby improving educational opportunities, national human resource development, and economic empowerment.

According to her, the bill, if passed, will institutionalize a transparent and suitable student financing framework to assist deserving students who face financial challenges in pursuing tertiary and professional studies.

Meanwhile, the joint committee is expected to report within a period of two weeks.
