The Representative of Bong County’s district #3, Josiah Marvin Cole, has officially resigned from the National Patriotic Party (NPP), citing the endorsement of the party’s Chairman, George Sylvester Mulbah, and some executive members of the party of his suspension without giving him the opportunity to be heard, as required by the by-laws and constitution of the party.
In his letter of resignation to the Standard Bearer of NPP, ex-Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, Representative Cole indicated that he took the stance to simply protect the rule of law as it relates to the on-going legislative impasse, which he said has led to his undemocratic and unconstitutional suspension.
“Moreover, as we have always said, ‘Above all else, the people,’ but if the leadership under Chairman George Sylvester Mulbah and his likes of the party can no longer protect and defend the constitution for the governance and happiness of the people I have decided, after several consultations with my family, friends, political partners and religious leaders, to exit. The law is the law. God bless the National Patriotic Party, God bless the people of district #3, Bong County, and God bless the people of Liberia,” Representative Cole’s resignation letter read.
He expressed gratitude to the party for the support he enjoyed as a member since 1997, including the opportunity to contest on the party’s ticket for a two-term legislative seat at the Legislature with commanding victories.
