Members of the House of Representatives have agreed to commence their regular sitting in the House Chamber on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
This follows weeks of conducting sittings at the Monrovia City Hall due to the impasse and arson attack (as described by police investigation) that destroyed the Joint Chamber.
The plenary’s decision to return and begin official legislative workings at the Capitol Building was predicated on a communication from Representative Michael Thomas of electoral district #4, Montserrado County.
In his communication, the Representative Thomas asserted that there was no need to be conducting the official sittings at the Monrovia City Hall since the House impasse is over and there is one unified House of Representatives.
“…In lieu of the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, couple with the resolution of the crisis at the Legislature as we currently have one unified House of Representatives under the gavel of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker as first amongst equals, thus, we crave the approbation of plenary for the return of our regular sitting at the House Chamber at the Capitol Building, which is the official seat of the Legislature of the Republic of Liberia.”
Following the reading and floor debate on the instrument, it was moved and seconded that the body return to the House Chamber on the 2nd Tuesday in March 2025 to conduct its legislative duties.
