During an official floor session of the California State Assembly, held at the California State Capitol in Sacramento, Adama Kiatamba Dempster was formally recognized for his outstanding service to humanity and his global leadership in advancing human rights, peace, and justice.

The recognition took place during the Assembly’s live session on April 27, 2026, where members convened to conduct official legislative business and honor distinguished individuals making significant contributions to society. This recognition was made possible through the recommendation and advocacy of Dr. Jamila Land, a prominent activist and leader in criminal justice reform, known for advancing equity, justice, and community empowerment through civic engagement.

Dempster, a respected Liberian human rights advocate and Global Human Rights Ambassador, has dedicated over 18 years to promoting transitional justice, strengthening democratic institutions, and advancing accountability both in Liberia and internationally.

He also graced the 34th Annual Africa Peace Award Dinner honoring Joseph Nyuma Boakai, hosted by the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution at California State University, Sacramento.

As National Secretary General and Co-Founder of the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform of Liberia, Dempster continues to play a critical role in amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and fostering sustainable peace.

This recognition by the California State Assembly highlights the importance of international partnerships in advancing justice and underscores the growing global impact of Liberian leadership in peacebuilding and human rights advocacy.

Community leaders, policymakers, and friends of Liberia gathered to witness and celebrate this historic moment, reflecting a shared commitment to justice, peace, equity, and human dignity.

“This honor represents not just my work, but the collective struggle and resilience of those who continue to fight for justice and accountability,” said Dempster. “It is a reminder that our efforts must remain steadfast in building a more just and peaceful world.”

The ceremony marks a significant milestone in strengthening ties between California and global human rights movements, reinforcing the role of local institutions in recognizing and supporting international advocates.

Notably, the recognition was further acknowledged by the California Legislative Black Caucus, which continues to champion policies and initiatives that advance equity, justice, and opportunities for Black communities across California and beyond.
