The Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), Emmanuel Gonquoi, has described as sad and shameful for Liberia, the oldest independent country in Africa, to find pride in celebrating streetlights, handpumps and clinics without medicine as hospitals, as though these are achievements worth celebrating in this new age.

Gonquoi claimed that even public schools, funded by government taxes, are not fit to host Liberian children.

Gonquoi said the EFFL finds this unacceptable and deeply irritating. “Our ancestors did not resist French incursions and colonial forces only for us to inherit mediocrity and incompetence masquerading as leadership. We have betrayed the legacy of those who fought for our sovereignty and liberty,” he stated.
The EFFL was a member of the Unity Party (UP) Alliance in the 2023 general and presidential elections, which championed the election of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

However, in the second year of the UP administration, some members of the alliance are expressing bitterness with the way the administration is handling national concerns, including corruption, good governance, rule of law and the economy. The EFFL is one of such members.

According to the EFFL leader, “Liberia, our beloved nation, has been in a deep sleep since independence. Today, it is our moral duty and collective courage that must awaken Mama Liberia from this long slumber.”

Gonquoi described Liberia as a nation betrayed by its own.
He pointed out that “the Liberia we see today is not the Liberia our ancestors fought for, and it is not the Liberia we will pass on. To give up now is to become a reactionary, a spectator in the making of your own nation. We must resist the temptation of political and economic rascals who profit from our poverty.”
The EFFL CIC warned that they are not here to wait for change; instead, they are here to create it, and further threatened of a coming revolution.
