Weah Urges CDC Reps To Return Under Koffa’s Gavel

–Describes Thomas Fallah’s Action As Unfortunate

The Political Leader of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and former President of the Republic, George M. Weah, has urged representatives who are members of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) to return under the gavel of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, and called on them to protect the interest of the party and the opposition community.

Ex-President Weah emphasized the need for representatives to stop stalling the function of the Liberian people, but if they think they have issues with their Speaker they should go back to the main chambers and raise their qualms, and if they want to remove him they should do so the right way.

He described the action of the Deputy Speaker and CDC Vice Chairman for Operation, Thomas P. Fallah, as unfortunate, and cautioned him to remember that the CDC took him from the plank field and supported him to reach where he is today. He equated Deputy Speaker Fallah’s action to sabotage, and encouraged him to lead the “rebelling” CDC lawmakers back to Speaker Koffa’s leadership.

Weah maintained that the manner in which Fallah is acting is wrong, and urged him to stop. He however admitted that the lawmakers, including Fallah, have their own will, but warned that they should remember that the CDC is an opposition party and cannot give in for the ruling establishment at this time.

He disclosed that he was the one who encouraged Koffa to join the CDC, and since he joined the party they have been good friends and brothers, and he will never be the one to go against Koffa. According to him, the CDC discussed about whom to support for the Speakership, Deputy Speakership and Caucus Chairman; therefore, if issues arise they should go back to the table to discuss them and not to disregard the position of the party.

Weah however downplayed former Representative Acarous Gray’s recommendation to expel Thomas Fallah from the party, noting that the party has a leadership structure, including a Grievance and Ethics Committee, which handles such matters. He said if the party deems it necessary to take any harsh action against Fallah, it could possibly begin with suspension, and then give the accused the opportunity to give his reasons—but the party cannot just expel its members.

Howbeit, he warned renegades not to think that without them the CDC cannot triumph, noting that CDC is the people, and made retrospection to the 2005 election, when they all were “political nobodies” and the CDC brought them all to prominence.

About the rumor that he, too, is a back-planner of Koffa’s removal, Weah descended on the Boakai administration, claiming that “Boakai can lie; and his officials can lie”. He reiterated his support for Koffa’s Speakership, and urged all CDC lawmakers to protect Koffa and respect the party’s position in the matter.
Former President Weah was speaking in an interview with Abraham Wheon, who had travelled to Ghana to meet with him to conduct the discussion.
