Sanction Regime!

The United States government, through diplomatic Channels, has informed the Weah-CDC government through officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about a sanction regime on certain senior officials of the government, particularly for abusing the rule of law.

The Trump administration announced 21 members of the CDC government to undergo the diplomatic restriction, including the former Director of Passport and Visas, Andrew Wonplo.

The 21 persons, whose names were submitted since January 2020, include top-ranking officials of the Weah administration and some officials of the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf administration who are actively involved with the state of affairs under the Weah administration. The Hot Pepper has learned that the backstage masterminds of the sanction regime are craving for more names to be added on the list due to the prevalent public corruption, human rights violations and crimes against humanity, which are all being swept under the carpet by those with the authority to halt the menaces.

A source in Washington, D.C. told the Hot Pepper that “there is no justice for the ordinary man in Liberia, and the government’s policy seeks to exploit the people, thereby corrupting all systems and institutions of government and violating the Constitution and laws of Liberia with impunity”.

According to the source, this trend of governance is turning Liberia into a land of injustice and impunity, an unhealthy environment for development which, in effect, is a disservice that is killing the nation.

It can be recalled that the erstwhile Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome Verdier, termed Liberia a “gangster’s paradise” under the CDC administration—a land with no regard for the rule of law. The Hot Pepper is still investigating whether or not Cllr. Verdier’s International Justice Group (IJG) has been a part of recommending the latest action of the United States government.

However, political pundits are saying that the Weah administration should have seen this coming their way a long time ago. They say what is saddening about the situation is that some of these individuals do not even understand the ramification of being on a sanction regime, as some of them are still being brainwashed by miscreants that nothing will happen to them.

They say it is no coincidence that the US government has announced a sanction regime on the Weah government, as the Wonplo investigation might have sparked a lot of other interesting investigations behind the scene. They argued that these sanctioned individuals and many more officials may still continue to deepen their woes with America, as they seem to care less about the rule of law and international diplomacy.

In a related development, the former Director of Passport and Visas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrew Wonplo, has challenged the decision of the American government to announce his public designation due to his involvement in signification corruption, banning him, his wife and all his children from entering the United States of America.

Wonplo’s challenging the US decision is stemmed from the verdict of the Criminal Court “C” of Judge Yarmie Gbeisay, which dismissed all the charges levied against him by the government’s prosecuting arm and restored his liberty on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
